Filipina Director Ramona Diaz wins Peabody Award for "A Thousand Cuts"

Another Filipino has been awarded the prestigious Peabody Award.

On Wednesday, June 8, Peabody Awards announced its winners for 2022 which included Filipina Film Director Ramona Diaz for her critically acclaimed documentary "A Thousand Cuts".
In her tweet after the announcement, Diaz thanked all those who have been part of the documentary.

She said it would not be possible without the help of Rappler CEO and Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa. She also thanks Frontline PBS, Motto Pictures, and Concordia for making it sure that people will be able to see the documentary.

"Humbled and gobsmacked. Thank you @PeabodyAwards for honoring @_athousandcuts with this award. It couldn't have happened without @mariaressa and @rapplerdotcom entrusting us with their story. And @frontlinepbs@MottoPictures, and Concordia making sure it got made and seen."
 
A Thousand Cuts is a documentary which focused on Rappler founder and CEO Maria Ressa and her fight for Philippine press freedom.

It follows the conflicts between the press and the Philippine government under President Rodrigo Duterte. It also showcased how Ressa was subjected to scrutiny by Duterte and his supporters.

The Peabody Award is considered to be the broadcast equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize for the print media, and the Oscar Awards for films.
