Two of the Philippine's largest TV networks ABS-CBN and GMA7 have bagged several nominations in the 2020 New Year Festivals Internation TV and Film Awards.
The archrival networks earned a total combined nominations of 17, 8 for the Kapamilya network and 9 for the Kapuso channel.
The 8 news and current affairs program from ABS-CBN that got the nod from New York Festival are Alab/Alaze (volunteer firefighters) for the Heroes Category, Ang Babae ng Balangiga/The Woman of Balangiga for History and Society Category, HIV Rising for Health/Medical Information Category, Invisible for Human Concern Category, Local Legends (“Glass Sculptor” feature) for The Arts Category, Local Legends(“Environmental Artist” feature) also for Heroes Category, #NoFilter (“Tao Po” episode) also for Human Concern Category and Red Alert (“Tigdas (Measles)” episode) another for Health/Medical Information Category
Meanwhile the 9 programs from GMA7 that were recognized by the New York Festival includes, Stand For Truth (reportage on Hong Kong protest) for the Coverage of Continuing News Story, State of the Nation with Jessica Soho (Luzon earthquake coverage) for Best Newscast Category, The Atom Araullo Specials (“Babies4Sale.PH” episode) for Best Investigative Report Category, The Atom Araullo Specials (“The Patient Is Out” epsiode) for Human Concerns Category, Born To Be Wild (Big Catch Feature) for Climate Change & Sustainability Category, Brigada (“Aeta Squadron/Female Spies” episode) for History & Society Category, Investigative Documentaries (“Tulaylay” feature) for Social Issue Category, Reporter’s Notebook (“Project Pilipinas: Medical Facility” episode) for Social Issues category, GMA Program Support Department’s TV spot (Bonifacio Day) for Best Graphic Design/Promotion/Open and IDs Category
In 2019, the Philippines won 6 awards from the New York Festival. ABS-CBN bagged 2 awards, 1 gold and 1 bronze while GMA7 got 4 awards, 2 silvers and 2 bronzes.
The New York Festival 2020 awarding ceremony will be held on April 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
