A high school teacher from Rizal has gone viral on twitter after advising his students that their research defends has been canceled due to the threat of COVID-19

On Sunday, Jay-ar Altamera took to twitter to announce that he is canceling the supposed research defense of his student to keep them safe from the rising threat of the COVID-19 disease.

"To my dear students: Due to confirmed case of COVID-19 virus in Rizal, there will be no more research defense however you need to pass the manuscript on March 20. Stay at home and work individually."

He added that the lives of his students are more precious than their grades.

"P.S. your life is more precious than your grades as a teacher I will do my part."

Altamera is a Senior High teacher at the Sumulong Memorial High School in Rizal.

Asked what motivated him to come up with the decision, Altamera said it was a personal proactive decision on his part so as not to endanger the health and safety of his students.

The teacher's decision came after the DOH has confirmed the first locally transmitted case of COVID-19, a 62-year male from Rizal.

Meanwhile, netizens praised the teacher for his proactive stand of the crisis.

As of writing the country has already 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection.

President Duterte during his presscon at the Malacanang, Monday evening has already announced the suspension of all classes from all levels in the whole of Metro Manila.

DILG, on the other hand, is working closely with the NCR LGUs to study the possibility of locking down the metro to contain the virus and stop further spread of the disease in nearby cities and provinces and other parts of the country.
