A Korean TV documentary was able to reunite a grieving mom to her deceased child.

Aired on February 6 via Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation's youtube page, the documentary featured Jang Ji-sung's reunion with her daughter Nayeon through virtual reality.

Nayeon died 3 years ago from an incurable disease.

In the video an emotional Jang stands in front of a big green screen while wearing both a VR headset and haptic gloves. The mother and her daughter were able talk, hold hands, and even have a birthday party complete with a lit cake in the recreated virtual world.

According to Aju Business Daily, the production team has spent eight months on the project. They designed the virtual park from that of the one visited by Jang and her daughter and used motion capture technology to record the movements of a child actor that they could later use as a model for the virtual Nayeon.

“Maybe it’s a real paradise,” said Jang in an interview with Aju Business Daily.

“I met Nayeon, who called me with a smile, for a very short time, but it’s a very happy time. I think I’ve had the dream I’ve always wanted.” she added.
