Held at the New Frontier Theatre in Araneta Center Cubao on Friday, December 27, Mindanao bested other 7 entries to take majority of the trophies including one of the most coveted awards of the night, the Best Picture.
Brillante's directorial job was also recognized as he was given the Best Director award. This is Mendoza's 2nd MMFF Best Director honor after winning for Thy Womb in the 2012 edition of the festival.
Meanwhile, the festival's favorite to win the Best Actress trophy did not disappoint as Judy Ann Santos went home with the honor.
Judy Ann's portrayal of a mother nursing a dying child while waiting for her soldier husband in Mindanao has made a mark to the judges thus giving her the top acting plum of the award's night. Prior to her MMFF win, Santos had already won another Best Actress trophy at the Cairo International Festival.
Aside from Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Director, Mindanao also won Best Float, Best Child Performer for Yuna Tangog, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Actor for Allen Dizon, Gender Sensitive Award, FPJ Memoerial Excellence Award and the Gatpuno Antonio Villegas Cultural Award.
